Alan Barborek grew up in southeast Missouri and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a major in criminal justice and a second major in speech communications. This is where he met his wife of 33 years, Sonja. They have two children, Jocelyn (Oligschlaeger) and Braidon as well as two grandchildren. After college Alan enjoyed a career in law enforcement for over 30 years. He joined the Missouri State Water Patrol in 1988. After being assigned to the St Louis area Alan transferred to Lake of the Ozarks where he worked for eight years before transferring to Jefferson City. In Jefferson City Alan was responsible for boating enforcement on the local rivers, as well as overseeing the state’s boating safety program, and enjoying his role as police instructor for new recruits. Alan was also on the national education committee for the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). When the Water Patrol decided to become accredited Alan was assigned as accreditation manager overseeing the accreditation process with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). With CALEA Alan held a position as assessor allowing him to assist other agencies in becoming accredited.
On January 1, 2011, the Missouri Water Patrol merged with the Missouri Highway Patrol and Alan continued his duties with the accreditation process, and as police instructor. He was assigned to the Patrol’s Planning and Research Division assisting with merging the policies of the two agencies. Sergeant Alan Barborek retired from the Highway Patrol on February 1, 2018.
After enjoying being in a position for 30 years to help the citizens of Missouri, educate young boaters, train new officers and assist other agencies when needed, Alan decided to bring that helpful spirit to real estate and continue helping people with something that can be life changing.
